The Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments is a consultative body of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). It seeks to facilitate personal contacts between the directors of parliamentary administrations with a view to fostering an exchange of experience, opinions and information.

Working methods

The Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments functions in accordance with its own rules and working methods.

It meets twice a year, in spring and autumn, generally at the same time and in the same place as the IPU conference.

The association presents the results of its work on specific topics in studies and comparative reports, most of which are published regularly in the ASGP’s "Constitutional and Parliamentary Information" series.

Members

The head of any parliamentary administration may join this association, even if their parliament is not a member of the IPU.

Their membership is thus independent of membership of the IPU, where some parliamentary bodies, for example the Bundesrat, are not represented.
